INTRODUCTION
Where does your food come from? These four Chicago men and women are working to make sure it is coming from a place of integrity, equity, and honesty. We've profiled individuals who play vastly differing, yet ultimately intertwined roles in food activism: a beekeeper, food co-op coordinator, a community garden director, and a sustainability advocate.
-
Vanessa Stokes is working to coordinate a food co-op in Austin, a “food desert” in desperate need of additional food sources.
-
Naaman Gambill is a beekeeper striving to stave off the world’s rapidly decreasing bee population, which in turn preserves the food supply.
-
Linda Seyler runs Global Garden, a community garden that provides work, food, and community for refugees.
-
Fred Carter is a certified permaculture teacher who advocates for sustainable food and lifestyle practices.
